“The analogy of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah is that it’s like [planting] a grain of corn, which grows seven ears and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whomever He pleases. Allah is All-Sufficient, All-Knowing.”
The Holy Quran: Chapter 2, Verse 261
”Those who guide to goodness, or facilitate the path to good for an other, they’ll be rewarded like the one who does the good deed.”
Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Why support Converts & Newly practicing muslims?
Did you know our community loses a Muslim for every convert/revert it gains?
According to a 2018 Pew research study, about a quarter of those raised in Muslim families leave their faith, and many who convert to Islam, are leaving due to atheist influences, dislike of “organized religion”, family problems, & lack of spiritual growth, among other reasons.
Why is this happening?
- I often feel lonely & isolated - I don't feel like a part of the Muslim community - I feel like an "outsider" when I go to the mosque - I can't find good friends to support me - My family is completely against me - The way they taught me Islam just made me mean & resentful, I couldn't take it anymore - I always felt judged when among Muslims - I don't know how to pray, I lost my motivation - I want to connect to the Quran & stuff but I just don't know how, it's too hard - I want to learn but can't find any good classes where I live - I don't know any "nice" Muslims - I've been studying atheism & it makes sense to me more than what they teach at my mosque - I love my boyfriend/girlfriend, I can't leave him - I embraced Islam but it just didn't meet my expectations - I'm an addict and I don't think I can stay a Muslim while also having this lifestyle - I had a really traumatic childhood but the mosque didn't really offer anything to help, they just made me feel like a horrible person for having mental & emotional health issues - I need a place where I feel at home, people that get me, and a place where I can find real guidance, motivation & clarity -
- These are the kinds of things we hear from converts & other Muslims in need, every day.
We need to offer them real solutions. -
What can you do to help?
We need your help to build the organization, leadership & communal spaces dedicated to the specific needs of those who are new to Islam, those who lack family support, and those who were raised as Muslims but didn't practice & are looking for a way to revive their faith. There are countless American Muslims - adults & youth - faces with questions of faith, fate, life & death, how to cope with trauma, and unless we offer them a better path, many will go astray. Square 1 is here to provide support, guidance, clarity & direction in this confusing world, all carefully crafted by people who understand.
